Grit of the Earth

Mathew 5:13
Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

Salt is not quite how I feel, but I think grit pretty much sums it up.

Definition of GRIT

1 a : sand, gravel b : a hard sharp granule (as of sand); also : material (as many abrasives) composed of such granules
2: any of several sandstones
3 a : the structure of a stone that adapts it to grinding b : the size of abrasive particles usually expressed as their mesh
4: firmness of mind or spirit : unyielding courage in the face of hardship or danger
This week I have been very frustrated with my OB doctor. They tacked on an extra eight days to my original due date (I feel that is just meanness on her part) I attended my appointment from the floor of the exam room. When she asked how I was feeling I was almost shocked…I mean I am lying on my tummy on a hard wood floor…Is that not enough? I told her and her shadowing intern “Take me out back and shoot me.”
She admitted me to the hospital last week. She saw my MRI. She was advised by my Neurosurgeon that the baby needed to be removed as soon as possible for my own health, which I have decided doesn’t mean much to her. She is a high risk doctor delivering babies that took a lot of work to bring into this world so her only concern is about the baby, not if the mom can walk again.

Right now I am suffering permanent damage to the nerves that run down my right leg and starting to feel the same effects in my left leg this week. The reason being I have no disk left between my L5 S1 space. It has wiggled its way out of my spinal column pinching the nerve leaving bone on bone. Two weeks after I have this baby I will be going in to have my back fused from L4 down to S1 with metal plates and screws. Something that I hoped to avoid, but didn’t. I’m hoping for a 360° fusion for active patients.
Heaven sakes I’ll only be 31 with a brand new baby! I’m just praying he is under 8lbs or I won’t be able to hold him for 2 or more months until my back heals completely.

I’m trying to keep my sense of humor about it all. I can barely walk with the pain to the bathroom now. Hydration is super scary…Tempted to send my husband out to buy Depends, although he thinks my idea about the funnel and garden hose is better. HaHa! If you wonder what it feels like it is almost like extreme frostbite. My foot is constantly cold, it is numb like crossing your legs and having your foot fall asleep with needle and pins sharpness, my ankle feels like I wrapped rubber bands tightly around it (you would think my foot would be all puffy and blue to look at it), my calf and shin burn like I’m too close to a camp fire. It hurts to be touched. Its almost like a rub down with sand paper, lol. My butt, hip and back ache! This isn’t how I planned this, but how often do plans that involve forces of nature go your way. Seriously?!
Just fun and games here! Thank you to all of you that have offered me extra support as I bawl my way through this moment of my life. I’ve been here before kind of, so I know what to expect to a point.

All things that I have gone threw in my own life with my family. I’ve been there and made it through and I know these women can also push through these situations and I want them to know that I do love them and I know they will be Happy and Healthy.

  1. Oh, my goodness! I knew you were in pain and uncomfortable… but had no idea it was that severe. I am praying double now for a smaller baby delivered quickly and easily ASAP. I am still impressed you went to Fitcation and are as active and positive as you are. You are amazing! Wishing you the best.

Thanks. I had sciatic pain at Fitcation, but I must have had muscles just pulling too hard against my back that it finally gave out a bit after I got home. It is a lot of pain, but I guess it’s to teach me to let other people come in and take care of me, lol. I still have to do my own laundry even if it is from the laundry room floor!

Holy cow, lady! I didn’t realize the extent of pain you’re in because of all this. You’re constantly in my thoughts/prayers, I hope everything moves in a smooth and easy way for you, hun.

Thanks for all the support & prayers. You are awesome. I’m feeling like a cry baby, but I know most people would have given in by now. I’m just trying to push through until I pass out, which hasn’t happened yet thank goodness.

  3. My ex had both his L4 and L5 Disks protruding and had to have surgery so I know what you are going through… I don’t know what they did to his back but it wasn’t fused… I continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers because I know this can not be an easy thing you are going through. I’m so sorry and wish I were closer to lend a hand :( Sending SUPER BIG HUGS to you!

    • MNMSpecial says:

Thanks Shelley! I have actually had surgery to this area 3 other times, but there is no disk left to just repair it. It just finally gave out with a little body wiggling around in there, lol. We are still looking at moving closer to you. Only time will tell…
